About the Client

Julia van Leenen is an Australian-born illustrator based in the Netherlands who creates soft, watercolor-inspired digital illustrations celebrating woodland animals, nature, and the quiet beauty of everyday life. Inspired by artists like Beatrix Potter, A.A. Milne, and Jill Barklem, her work evokes warmth, nostalgia, and childhood wonder.

Through her illustrations, Julia hopes to create moments of comfort and connection while building a career that spans commissions, prints, and eventually children's book illustration.

What Makes This Website Unique

Rather than creating a traditional online shop, we designed Julia's website to feel like stepping into one of her storybooks.

Every detail, from the gentle typography and soft colour palette to the spacious layouts, was chosen to reflect the calm, nostalgic feeling of her illustrations.

The website was also designed to support multiple goals. Alongside her online shop, it features a dedicated gallery that showcases her illustrations as a professional portfolio for publishers and art directors, as well as a commissions page that guides visitors through her custom illustration process.

Together, these elements create a digital home that supports collectors, commission clients, and future publishing opportunities alike.

Branding

Julia's visual identity was inspired by the timeless charm of the storybooks that shaped her artistic voice.
We drew inspiration from classic illustrations like Peter Rabbit to create a logo and brand identity that feels elegant, whimsical, and enduring.

Rather than competing with her artwork, the branding was intentionally understated, allowing her illustrations to remain the hero while giving the website the feeling of a beautifully illustrated book waiting to be explored.

Beyond the Website

This project extended well beyond designing a Shopify store. Together, we developed Julia's business strategy, helping her define her ideal audience, organize her product offerings, structure her commissions, plan her website launch, and build a long-term roadmap for growing her creative business.

We also developed an SEO foundation, email marketing strategy, and launch campaign designed to generate excitement before launch and drive visitors to her new online shop. Most importantly, the website was built to grow with her, from selling prints and commissions today to supporting future licensing opportunities and children's book illustration projects.
